Calendula Officinalis is one of the oldest cultivated flowers associated with the sun and moon. In Roman times it was prized for its medicinal properties. Calendula Flowers are more commonly know as Pot Marigold which should not be confused with French and African Marigold. Calendula Officinalis believed to have gained the nickname Pot Marigold during "Tudor Times" when it was a widely used ingredient in pot based cooking. Calendula Officinalis is an official flower and the name Calendula stems from the Latin word Kalendae meaning: "The Day of The New Moon" and in lore it was believed that if you placed it under your pillow at night on the new moon it would bring your dreams to reality.
